Day 12 (part 2). Our luck continues
After our fail with the whales we head to "The Beach Club" restaurant which was recommended by several different locals. The Beach Club is a local restaurant on the shores of Marino Ballena National Park. The restaurant has a swimming pool and is near a beach access. We arrive to lots of people and find out they have a wait, which is understandable. The owner welcomes us to go to the beach and he will come find us when our table is ready. So we head to the beach and enjoy the sea and lots of hermit crabs!! After waiting much too long, Eric heads back to the restaurant to check in. It is clear that many many people have arrived after us and have been seated. It is also clear that unless we seat ourselves when a table empties we are going to be easily forgotten. Maybe this should have been a sign to find a new spot for lunch but we stick it out. Eventually we do get and table and then wait easily 45 minutes before I head to the bar to beg for a drink...water, soda, alcohol, anything! Desperately thirsty from hanging out at the beach, we were! The drinks take an expected, by this point, long time to arrive and then still we haven't ordered any food! After another painful wait, and realizing that instead of lunch this is now going to be our DINNER, some of our food arrives. Unfortunately, out of the three kids meals that come only ONE is even close to what we ordered. When you order chicken because one doesn't like fish, calamari isn't something you can make do with, especially when we are talking about kids! It takes another TWO tries before we end up with the actual food we ordered. The food was OK, but nothing I would wait for longer than the wait at a soda. Apologies were made by the owner...even a complimentary cerveza. I don't know whether we just hit a rough spot in the business, or if this is typical. But a quick lunch should never span over FOUR HOURS! I guess out of 15 days if this is all the worse our luck gets then so be it! I still have a bag FULL of antibiotics and medicine that we haven't even pulled out of the suitcase--that is the good luck that really matters. Blues skies and sunny days while hanging out on boats and beaches--Pura Vida!
