Day Five. morning
Day Five.
Being rained isn't nearly as endearing as being snowed in. And, the rain on day 4, the hills of la Llave, and our two wheel drive car was getting us just that--rained in. We had beaches to go to, new years eve parties to check out. We were on vacation and being rained in wasn't part of the plan.
Graham spent the morning cleaning up our trashed car from the escapade at Green Beach. After a lazy morning of swimming, and hanging out at casa vaca, we decided to head to town to visit the museum and go to lunch. There was one hill on the way to the main paved road from our house that gave us white knuckles each attempt to make it up. Day five’s drive was worse than ever. It took several attempts with a running start. With visions of slide offs and no vehicle for the rest of our trip, as soon as we made it out of La Llave, we drove immediately to Maritza's Rentals. I walked into the rental office, and with tears in my eyes (no kidding), and begged them for a 4 wheel drive car. Cars on Vieques are limited. And, during peak times, like right now, their aren't enough cars for the demand of visitors. I was fully expecting them to tell me to take a hike. But, with a stroke of luck, we were given a new car. And, while our new car lacked 3 seat belts in the back, it was convertible. And, just what we asked for originally, when making our reservations. At that time, they denied our request, stating we had to have 3 seat belts. Now, however, they were willing to look the other way. Seat belts we can make work...having only 2 wheels when we need 4...not so much. Thank you Maritzas. We promise to be responsible and not take the first wandering path we see. Don't worry we've learned our lesson.
