well, the season is over.

So the baseball moms all told me that the season flies by in a fury. "Get ready. Once baseball starts you live at the diamonds, but before you know it, it is over."

But, I never thought it would be this short. You see baseball just started the end of last month and just weeks later...she's done. I guess I should have know when after the very first practice Ella climbed in the car and exclaimed (with all the drama an almost 5 year old can muster) "I wish I would've never signed up!!" Over the next few days whenever the whisper of the "B" word came up she would say "SIGN ME OFF!"

But we continued. The next few practices weren't forced or awful although she only continued with the sights of a trophy in the end. Her first, and probably last, game was just last weekend. She was happy and excited. Excited that she was going to get candy at the concessions. Excited that Grandmas were coming. Oh, and that concession....couldn't wait. The game was fun and I even spied a smile a time or two. I clapped when she struck out and clapped even more when she hit the ball. I was eager to hear of her new found love for the sport by the end of her game. But as we left the field in route to pick out the perfect sugar filled treat, I heard Ella's assessment of the game. "I hate it. It's sooo boring. The gray baseball pants are uggggllly. Just sign me OFF."

So, Monday was practice. Eric headed off with Ella while Graham and I finished his homework. No more than 15 minutes later as Graham and I were headed out the door to his practice, Ella barges in the door. She has a huge smile on her face and begins to laugh. "I'm quitting baseball. I quit. I quit. I quit." I look at Eric. I look at Ella. Eric says "It was going to be a scene. I would have had to drag her. Remember, its suppose to be fun..."
Ella smiles and shakes her head in agreement to what her dad has just said. She laughs some more. "I signed OFF."

I guess that is one less plastic trophy I have to proudly display.

I love it, Anne! I have been wrapped up in your family site here for over an hour--enjoying a latte while Nikolas sleeps, Nole is at school and Brent at work. I am even teary eyed by some of your posts.

I love your dedication to this site. I love Ella's baseball experience. I love the post about your dh and the dishtowels. And I love your beautiful family.

You know Tim...you are right we need pink pants. I seriously contemplated buying some white ones and dying them pink...but her dropping out is easier, isn't it?!?

Jillian played soccer last fall...and hated it...and the only reason she didn't quit is because she wanted a trophy and her big brother already has a shelf full and she doesn't have any. But now we've found something better- she's a cheer bear...and part of the outfit for the recital was to put some "bling" on- so we sprayed her all over with glitter and she was thrilled! AND she got a TROPHY!
