day 2. stuck in the chicago blizzard

sliding the mounds

Day 2 Same place, same stuff going on

Another day at Hotel fun for the Anderson family. We woke up to the aftermath of Blizzard 2011. You could only tell where parts of roads were by the cars that were abandoned, too stuck in snow to continue on to their destination. We really only had one choice for food-the hotel restaurant again! Fortunately for us, the Hyatt must not have a huge number of families just hanging out because without even asking they offered us a permanent 30% discount in their restaurant. And, later, gave us an access code for the WIFI in our room. And, really, surprisingly, no one seems too annoyed with our kids. Even the other guests in the fitness center smiled when all 4 of the treadmills were occupied by Andersons, most going a speed of 2 mph or less. Yes, to pass the time of an extended hotel stay we played in the fitness center, had escalator races, did in room, on demand Pilates (ella’s favorite was the “doing the mermaid position), read books, visited other floors and party rooms, watched the snow plows, danced to the iPod, and laughed and bickered…all together. And, one last thing—played in the snow of course!! Fresh air was in order. So we ventured out into the snow. Ella immediately climbed to the very top of a pile of plowed snow and declared that this was just like climbing Mount Everest. The kids slid down mounds, climbed back up. The licked icicles and threw snow balls. The sun was out, the blizzard had moved on. We began to have some hope that the St John flight might happen after all! 12 hours and counting until departure!! Please let the white outside be sand and not so cold this time tomorrow.
