Car Rentals

Some things have never changed over the years. Having a car in Vieques is essential but rentals are iffy at best. The first time, our rental choice was between two cars with hoods up being worked on. The second trip, left us with a car that have a permanent gnat nest in the back seat. So, this time when we called to confirm our car we weren’t too surprised to be told “yes, yes, you have car.” Turns out though that the company we rented from went out of business, so the company next door took our agreement over. When we got to the rental location, and gave our name, lots of hurried, hushed spanish went between 2 or 3 of the employees. Somehow, a car was found, or rather driven in while we waited. A TWO wheel drive vehicle with only a bit of sand--”shouldn’t have any problems” they said.
